Rough cost

Baseplates are $7.99 each at LEGO.com, so $7.99 for 1. New 1×1 plates average about $0.04 to $0.06 each on BrickLink, so 800 plates come to roughly $30.40 to $47.20. Parts total: $38.39 to $55.19.

Prices checked 21 October 2026 (LEGO.com and the BrickLink price guide). Add seller postage.

Before you build

  1. Order the plates by part number 3024 and the colour names above from BrickLink or Brick Owl. The wanted list above uploads straight into BrickLink. Confirm stock before paying.
  2. Sort the plates into tubs and label each tub with its code.
  3. Lay the 1 baseplates out 1 wide and 1 high and number them on the back, left to right, top row first.
  4. Build each baseplate on a table before mounting. Each baseplate has four 16×16 sections. Sections with no artwork are skipped, so the steps jump straight to the next one that needs plates.
  5. On a bare baseplate there are no guide lines. Count studs from the corner of the section, place the darkest shapes first, then fill in around them.
  6. After every section, press the plates down with a flat book and tick the step off here.

Plates for this step

Squares with a dot stay as bare baseplate. Count in from the top-left corner of the section using the row and column numbers.

Finishing

  1. Cut the backing board to 256 × 256 mm, or larger if you want a border for a frame.
  2. Fix baseplate 1 square to the top-left corner. Butt the next baseplate tight against it and clip two or three 2×4 bricks across the join before the adhesive grabs, so the stud spacing carries across. Repeat for the rest.
  3. Remove the bridging bricks and check that shapes crossing a join line up.
  4. Hang it from fixings screwed into the board. At this size the board is the heavy part, so use wall fixings rated for it.
